1. How does this camera compare to using a regular camera with a window mount?
A purpose-built window camera is designed for monitoring through glass. Unlike regular cameras, it uses no IR LEDs to avoid night-time reflections, while its anti-glare design and low-light optics provide clearer images. Magnetic mounting, dual-band Wi-Fi, local web access, and ONVIF/RTSP support offer greater flexibility for installation and integration.
2. How does the camera see at night without infrared LEDs?
Window cameras are designed without built-in infrared or white fill lights, as these lights can cause strong reflections when shooting through glass.
CAM GlassView therefore relies on ambient outdoor light for nighttime imaging. In typical residential environments with available light from streetlights, porch lights, landscape lighting, moonlight, or other nearby light sources, the camera can deliver clear and useful full-color nighttime images.
For best results, we recommend using the camera in areas with some ambient light, as image quality may decrease in very dark environments.
3. How does the magnetic mounting work?
Each bracket has an adhesive backing that sticks to the window glass. The camera body features a built-in magnet that securely attaches to the metal surface of the bracket, yet allows you to easily detach and reattach the camera without removing the bracket from the glass.
4. Can I configure the camera without using the mobile app?
Yes! The camera features a built-in local web console that lets you view the live feed, configure settings, and update firmware — all from a web browser on any computer or tablet connected to the same local network. No app required.
5. Can I use the camera with Home Assistant?
Yes. The camera integrates with Home Assistant through RTSP or ONVIF.
6. Does the camera require a subscription to record? Can I still receive events without a TF card?
No. The CAM-S3W supports local recording to a TF/microSD card and does not rely on a cloud subscription for recording. Cloud storage is not supported. Events will still appear in the event list in the app when no TF/microSD card is inserted but event images and playback clips are not available
7. What type of windows work best?
- Single-pane glass works best for image clarity.
- Double-pane windows may introduce slight reflections but are generally acceptable.
- Tinted windows or windows with Low-E coatings may reduce image quality, especially at night, as these coatings reflect more light.
- Decorative or textured glass should be avoided.
Besides, we do not recommend placing the camera behind a window screen. If possible, choose a window that is shaded during the hottest part of the day, as direct and prolonged sunlight can heat the adhesive and potentially weaken it over time.
