Introduction
This tutorial explains how to use a remote temperature sensor with SONOFF thermostat devices in Home Assistant through a Home Assistant blueprint. Different thermostat devices require different blueprint links, so make sure you use the blueprint that matches your device.
The steps below use the TP-WGZBA thermostat as an example to show how to configure an external temperature sensor using a blueprint.
Menu names may vary slightly between Home Assistant versions. Follow the options shown in your current Home Assistant interface.

👉 Tip: If you prefer to configure the external temperature sensor manually in Home Assistant, follow our step-by-step guide for both ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT (Z2M): Set Up a SONOFF TRV with an External Temperature Sensor Manually
Before You Start
Before beginning, make sure that:
- The remote temperature sensor has already been added to Home Assistant and is displaying temperature correctly.
- The thermostat or thermostat panel has been added successfully.
- The device is online.
Step 1: Import the Blueprint
- Open Home Assistant.
- Go to Settings → Automations & Scenes → Blueprints.
- Click Import Blueprint in the lower-right corner.

4. Paste the corresponding blueprint URL into the Blueprint address field.
- The following URL is the blueprint for the SONOFF TP-WGZBA thermostat:

5. After the blueprint is imported successfully, it will appear in the blueprint list.

Notes:
- If the blueprint cannot be imported, check whether the blueprint URL is complete and has been copied correctly.
- If the blueprint does not appear after importing, refresh the page or restart Home Assistant.
Step 2: Create an Automation From the Blueprint
- Go to Settings → Automations & Scenes → Automations.
- Click + Create Automation.
- Choose the remote temperature sensor blueprint you just imported.

4. Select your thermostat device, such as the TP-WGZBA thermostat panel.
5. Select the corresponding external temperature sensor to use as the remote temperature source.

6. Give the automation a name, for example: Sync Remote Temperature to TP-WGZBA.
7. Click Save.
8. Make sure the automation is enabled.

Notes:
- The thermostat device and temperature sensor must already be added to Home Assistant and remain online.
- If you cannot find the thermostat or temperature sensor, check whether the device has been added correctly.
- After saving the automation, make sure its status is enabled.
Step 3: Enable the External Temperature Sensor in the Device Settings
After creating the automation, you also need to enable the external temperature source on the thermostat device itself.
Method 1: ZHA
- Find your SONOFF TP-WGZBA thermostat device.
- Find the External Temperature Sensor switch and turn it on.

Method 2: Zigbee2MQTT
- Find your SONOFF TP-WGZBA thermostat device.
- Open the device settings page, then find and select External Temperature Sensor.

Notes:
- With ZHA, enable the External Temperature Source switch.
- With Zigbee2MQTT, select External Temperature Source.
- If the device is offline, has a low battery, or has a weak signal, the setting may not take effect immediately.
- If you cannot find the External Temperature Sensor option, check whether your ZHA / Zigbee2MQTT version and device model support it.
Step 4: How to Confirm the Setup Is Working
After completing the steps above, you can confirm the configuration in the following ways:
- Make sure the automation has been created and is enabled.
- Make sure the external temperature source has been enabled or selected in the device settings.
- Change the temperature reported by the remote temperature sensor and check whether the value updates in Home Assistant or on the device.
- Confirm that the thermostat uses the temperature from the remote temperature source for temperature control.
- Confirm that the temperature is displayed correctly on both the device and in Home Assistant.
