The SONOFF water leak detector is designed for residential use and can be placed anywhere water leaks are likely to occur — such as near water heaters, washing machines, sump pumps, under sinks, or in basements. Its compact design also makes it ideal for tight or hidden spaces like under cabinets, around pipes, or in wine cellars and attics. For larger or hard-to-reach areas, such as basements or attics, you can use water detection cables to extend the monitoring range.
This helps early detection of drips, leaks, and potential flooding, protecting your home from water damage.

No. With firmware V1.0.2 or later, the sensor resends leak alerts every 10 minutes while water is detected, helping prevent missed notifications caused by temporary network issues.
8. Can I use extended water detection cables with the SONOFF SNZB-05P water leak sensor?
Yes. You can connect multiple water detection cables in a daisy chain with no total length limit, allowing coverage for large areas.
9. How does the SNZB-05P water leak detection cable work？
- The water leak detection cable is a braided extension that attaches to the sensor via a magnetic clip. It is designed to trigger the alarm whenever moisture touches any part of the cable, making it ideal for winding around appliances like washing machines, basements, and water heaters.
- These cables can be connected in series without any length limitation, allowing for wide-area coverage. Once the cable has been soaked, it can be reused after being completely dry.
10. Can I reuse the water detection sensor cable?
Yes, after being exposed to water, the cable can be reused once it is completely dry. Please do not pull, twist, or handle the extension cable roughly, as this may cause damage.
11. What is the recommended humidity range for using the water leak detection cable?
The recommended operating humidity is 0–80% RH (non-condensing). Excessive humidity may cause the sensor to falsely detect water.
12. Can I use a standard Type-C extension cable between two water detection cables?
Yes, you can. However, please do not use a previously soaked Type-C extension cable to charge other devices.
13. Why does the app still show the water sensor as online even after the battery is removed?
- The SONOFF water leak sensor communicates with the gateway periodically to maintain its online status. If the gateway doesn't receive communication after a certain period, it will mark the device as offline.
- As a battery-powered water leak detector, it uses low-frequency communication to conserve power. For example, when connected to a SONOFF ZBBridge-P gateway, the device will be marked offline about 1 hour after the battery is removed. With other gateways, it may take several hours or more.
- If the water sensor is in normal use with good signal strength, you will receive a low battery warning before the battery runs out, so there's no need to worry.
