FAQ
1. How does the Door Window Sensor work?
The door window sensor works by detecting the proximity and separation between the transmitter and magnet to determine the door/window's open/close status. Its open/close and tamper statuses are mainly used to trigger smart automations, such as turning on lights, activating alarms, or starting camera recording for home security.
2. How to install a door and window sensor?
There are 3 steps to install door or window sensor:
- Step 1: Apply the 3M adhesive to the designated area on the door detector sensor.
- Step 2: Align the alignment mark on the transmitter and the magnet as closely as possible.
- Step 3: Attach the transmitter and the magnet to the door or window frame.
*Note: The magnet can be installed horizontally or vertically, and can be removed and installed separately when space is limited.
3. How many smart door window contact sensors do I need?
The number of door and window contact detectors you need depends on what you want to monitor.
In addition to doors and windows, the smart sensor can be used on baby safety gates, pet doors or cages, medicine cabinets, drawers, refrigerators, safes, and more.
4. How does the smart door window sensor detect the door or window status?
The sensor detects the relative distance between the main sensor and the magnet. When they are separated or brought close together, it changes the state between "open" and "closed".
5. Can the door/window sensor that sends alerts to your phone notify you when the door/window is opened?
Of course! Please remember to turn on the 'Push Notification' in the device's setting page.
6. What is the tamper-proof feature of door window sensors?
The sensor has a tamper alarm that triggers if someone tries to remove or tamper with the device, sending an alert to the app or triggering automation actions.
7. What type of battery does the door/window open sensor use, and how long does it last?
The device uses 2 AAA batteries and supports a 3-year battery life.
8. How to integrate the smart door/window sensor into open-source platforms?
You need SONOFF Dongle Series to add the device to ZHA or Z2M. Currently, you need a script for ZHA. Please refer to https://help.sonoff.tech/docs/SNZB-04PR2 (Key Features >> Compatible Zigbee Hub List) for the script and instruction.
